Font design

Słuckija

The font is based on the historical Belarusian element of cloth, especially the patterns of the Slutsk belt (the Slutsk belt is the element of noblemen's clothing that consists of a piece of fabric up to four meters long and 30–50 cm wide, woven from silk threads
with the addition of gold or silver).

Concept development

The design process began by redrawing selected belt patterns by hand to better understand their structure and visual rhythm. This manual study allowed close observation of recurring motifs and proportions.

Next, the patterns were simplified into basic shapes and lines to identify common visual elements. Reducing the ornaments to their essential geometry helped establish a consistent formal language that later guided the development of the typeface.
